Cats are a great choice when it comes to a household pet. They are loving, quiet and very playful. Many adults and children have a fondness for cats but that same fondness doesn’t carry to litter box duty.

Cats instinctively know to use the litter box. Once they’ve taken care of their business it’s time for a family member to finish the job and scoop the cat’s waste out of the litter box. The invention of the electronic litter box was a wonderful idea. The premise is actually quite simple. Once the cat has relieved themselves the box cleans the litter itself either through a sifting process or through the use of a rake type device.

The cat exits the box and through electricity a mechanism starts a timer. Once the timer has reached its end the electronic litter box begins its work. If the electronic litter box uses shifting as a means to clean it will most likely be shaped very much like a globe. The cat will enter and exit the covered dome and the dome turns for the cleaning process. The litter is shifted with the waste being discarded below the box. Then the litter is repositioned so the cat can use it again.

A rectangular electronic litter box will generally employ the raking system of cleaning. Again, the cat exits the box and the rake runs through the litter removing and clumps of material which is the cat’s waste. Once the rake has run through its course, the electronic litter box is again ready for the cat.

You can purchase an electronic litter box that needs a replaceable waste tray but there are models that use a regular size trash bag making them a very affordable choice.

An electronic litter box is perfect for people who are away at work or school during the day. It can also be a good idea if you have to travel overnight and feel comfortable leaving the cat home alone with food and water.
